Kangaroo Valley is one of the most reliable places in New South Wales to see native animals in the wild. Most of them keep to a timetable, so here is where and when to look.

Two kayaks on still water at sunrise with the escarpment behind

Out on the lake before breakfast

The kayaks live at the water's edge, a short walk down the lawn. Most guests go out early, when the water is flat and the mist is still lifting off the valley, and are back on the deck for coffee.

  • Two single and two double kayaks
  • Paddles and life jackets in adult and child sizes
  • Calm water, fine for first-timers

Questions

How far is Kangaroo Valley from Sydney?

About two and a half hours by car, either down the coast through Berry or through the Southern Highlands via Moss Vale.

When is the best time to see wombats?

Late afternoon into dusk, all year. They usually graze the lawn below the house as the light goes.

Do I need kayaking experience?

No. The lake is sheltered and the kayaks are stable. Life jackets are supplied for adults and children.

Is there phone reception?

Reception in the valley is patchy. The house has Starlink Wi-Fi, so calls over Wi-Fi work.

Can we bring our dog?

Not at this property, because of the wildlife on the land.
