Kayaking in Kangaroo Valley

The kayaks live at the water's edge, a short walk down the lawn. The water is calmest early, while the mist is still lifting.

What's supplied

  • Two single and two double sit-on-top kayaks
  • Paddles, and life jackets in adult and child sizes
  • A dry bag for phones and keys

The lake is sheltered and the kayaks are stable, so no experience is needed. Children must be with an adult and wear a life jacket on the water.

When to go out

Early morning

Flat water, mist and the best chance of seeing kangaroos on the bank.

Late afternoon

Warmer water in summer. The wind usually drops again towards dusk.

Not in wind or storms

Stay off the water when it's gusty or when there's lightning about. Check the forecast before you go.

Paddling further afield

Local operators run guided and self-guided canoe trips on the Kangaroo River, from half a day to overnight trips into Lake Yarrunga. We're happy to recommend one when you book.
